See ya next year

Helloo! How are y'all doing? I hope you all had a great holiday and are enjoying this beautiful snowy day.

With a new year beginning this week, I can't help but reflect on 2021. A lot of things happened this past year and one of them was the creation of this newsletter.

I sent the very first From Boise newsletter to 250 people on March 30, 2021. I was soo nervous. I wasn't really sure what From Boise even was, ya know? And in the year prior I had spent more time in the mountains than out and about in Boise. I felt out of touch with what was cool or actually happening anymore. So, I started there and answered my own question: what's going on in Boise these days.

Over the year that question would continue to find answers. I learned about trees in Boise and the industries that have shaped Boise into a modern city. I gained a new level of appreciation for our trail system and foothills and all the people who are able to use them. I got perspective of what it's like to move to Boise from another country. I saw how music has the power to bring people together. I actually wrote a lot about music, like all the summer concert series, nearby mountain music festivals, Treefort Music Fest, and a bunch of live music venues in Boise. And it was soo nice to have events back again, like Goathead Fest and the Twilight Criterium.

I learned so much Boise history, like Mary Foote and her life in the wild west, the journey of passenger trains in Boise, and the many women that Boise's parks are named after. I also found a lot of new and growing things here, like The 208 Film Society, flower farms, and Chicana Foods.

Heading into 2022, there's 6,000 of you reading From Boise and so much to write about. Thank you all so much for subscribing and reading. I'm looking forward to a new year of stories, discoveries, and doing fun stuff in beautiful Boise.

Writing From Boise over the last 9 months has taught me a lot about Boise. It's helped me continue to explore the city that I’ve lived in for a decade and it shows me how much there is to be excited about.

From Boise reminds me of how good life in Boise is. I hope it does the same for you.

I want to know, what are you looking forward to in 2022? What do you want to read about in From Boise next year? I'd love to hear from you --> marissa@fromboise.com
