Fri Aug 19: The 23rd Annual Festival of India is happening at the Krishna Cultural Center (2470 W Boise Ave) from 6:30-10:30pm. Enjoy dance, music, food and spiritual culture of India. It's free!

Fri-Sat August 19-20: LED is performing Dance Is Cringe this weekend! Friday is sold out but still tix left for Saturday. One chance to see this amazing performance!

Aug 19-28: Western Idaho Fair kicks off on Friday and goes for 10 days. All the usual fair things + concerts. This year is the 125th fair :o

Sat Aug 20: It's Bug Day at the Idaho Botanical Garden! Enjoy hands-on learning experiences, live music, food, drinks, a VW car show and a dancing praying mantis from Colossal Collective! Bug costumes encouraged. It's $8 for garden members, $12 for non members, and goes 10am-3pm.

Sat Aug 20: The annual 32 Cells Art Show is happening at the Old Pen from 6-8pm. See work from local artists inspired by true stories from the Old Idaho Penitentiary’s 101 years of operation. Tix are $10.

Sun Aug 21: The 9th Annual Hop Rod Car Show is happening from 11am-3pm at EDGE Brewing Co. Cars, beer, food, live music, vendors, raffles & more!

Sun Aug 21: Celebrate Indonesian Culture and Heritage Day at Julia Davis Park from 10am-2pm. Explore Indonesian culture, music, food & dance. Bring a chair/blanket & your friends!

Indie Movie Mondays

Mon Aug 22: Mad Swede Brew Hall (downtown) is starting Indie Movie Mondays, a new Monday night film series featuring all local filmmakers! This week is all comedy short films. It's free!

Comedy & storytelling

  • Fri Aug 19: The Second Annual Upstaged Comedy Competition, a three-week stand up comedy contest, kicks off tomorrow at Watson's Mystery Cafe. Each week, comics get a topic or gimmick to work into their set. Each night the audience votes, and five contestants are eliminated each week until there is one winner and one runner-up. Tix are $20/night or $50 for all three events. Show starts at 7pm!
  • Fri Aug 19: Comedian Thomas Nichols is at Mad Swede Downtown. Show starts at 7pm and tix are $15.
  • Sat Aug 20: Go to A Brunch of Laughs and see comedians Andrea Wilson, Dustin Chalifoux, Kat Lizarraga, Bree Jones, and Krystal Moore. Tix are $10, brunch is an add on. Starts at 1pm.
  • Sat Aug 20: Get your music and comedy fix all in one place at Rockers vs Jokers at Watson's Mystery Cafe. Food & drink specials all night, open to 18+. It's free!
  • Sat Aug 20: Go to Femme Fatale at Mad Swede Brew Hall, and see some of Boise's funniest females Krystal Moore, Merry Cole, Andrea Wilson, Natasha Dash & Jen Chastain. Starts at 9pm and tix are $15.
  • Tue Aug 23: Story Story Late Night is back with RUBY SLiPPERS, stories of putting yourself in someone else's shoes. Enjoy an evening of stories at the Old Idaho Pen. Tix are $12.
