I scream, you scream...

Earlier this month City Cast Boise talked to local artist and muralist Miguel Almeida. His art is super rad - you may have seen it on a local beer can, on a mural in Garden City or in Boise, on a Boise Library card, or on a traffic box. Listen to his story here!

Soo, it’s frickin hot. It’s almost time to go back to school. It's summer. All of this calls for… ice cream.

I was a nanny throughout college, and one family I worked for did an annual “ice cream for dinner” night the weekend before school started. Such a fun idea! Wether you go for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert, here's some cool places to get ice cream in Boise:

Goody's

📍1502 N 13th Street, Boise

Hours: Every day, 10am-10pm

Website:goodyssodafountain.com

Why we love it: Serving homemade ice cream & classic candies since 1997 from a little shop in Boise's Hyde Park neighborhood, Goody's is a Boise staple. They make small batch ice cream in multiple flavors, which you can enjoy in a dish, a homemade cone, an ice cream sundae, a genuine ice cream soda, a float, or a milkshake. Goody's is about as classic as it gets.

The STIL

📍786 W. Broad Street, Downtown Boise; Sun-Thur 11am-11pm, Fri-Sat: 11am-12am

📍13 S. Latah Street, Boise Bench; open everyday 11am-10pm

📍3724 S. Eckert Road, Southeast Boise/Harris Ranch; open everyday 11am-10pm

📍712 Arthur Street, Downtown Caldwell; Sun-Thur 12-9pm, Fri-Sat 12-10pm

Website:ilovethestil.com

Why we love it: The STIL (The Sweetest Things In Life) came about in 2017. They have an ever-changing lineup of unique ice cream flavors made in-house using all local ingredients & no artificial flavors, colors, or ingredients. They also have vegan options made using oat and coconut milk, and booze-infused ice creams! I know I am not alone when I say that the Deja Vu is truly the best ice cream I have ever had. It ruined me, for real.

Stella’s Ice Cream

📍100 N 8th Street, Downtown Boise

📍2826 S Eagle Road Suite 140, Eagle

📍1212 3rd Street South, Nampa

📍2609 Blaine Street, Caldwell

Hours for all locations: Sun-Thur 12-10pm; Fri-Sat 12-11pm

Website:www.stellasicecream.com

Why we love it: Stella's has handmade ice cream in all the classic flavors, plus some creative monthly specials. What makes Stella's extra special is the extras. You can get your ice cream on a handmade cone, in between to fresh baked cookies, piled on top of a gooey brownie, or in the middle of a float. They have vegan options too!

Delsa’s Ice Cream Shop

📍7923 W Ustick Road, Boise

Hours: School year hours Mon-Thur 11am-8pm, Fri-Sat 11am-9pm, Sun 11am-6pm; Summer hours Mon-Sat 11am-9pm, Sun 11am-6pm

Website:delsas.com

Why we love it: In 1961, Owen and Delsa Walton opened a teeny ice cream parlor in front of their farm on Ustick Road, serving nothing but Mrs. Walton's homemade ice cream. The Delsa's Ice Cream we know today is still using Mrs. Walton's original recipe, and now also serves burgers and sandwiches. It's a no-frills, super tasty spot.

📍3037 S Cole Rd, Boise

Hours: Mon-Thur 5-9pm, Fri 5-10pm, Sat 4-10pm, Sun 2-9pm

Website:c4creamery.com

Why we love it: C4 Creamery serves rolled ice cream bowls! They got their start at the Capital City Farmers Market in 2018 and opened their brick-and-mortar location in 2019. It's a whole experience that you just need to try.

Negranti Creamery

📍777 W Main Street #115, Downtown Boise

Hours: Mon-Thur 12-9pm, Fri 12-11pm, Sat 11am-11pm, Sun 12-8pm

Website:negranticreamery.com

Why we love it: Negranti's ice cream is made using sheep's milk! It still has the creamy, rich flavor but it's lactose intolerant-friendly and gluten free. They also serve traditional cow's milk ice cream, ice cream sandwiches and ice cream pie! Yum.

Bite Me

📍3525 E Longwing Lane, Suite A-140, in the Village at Meridian

Hours: Mon-Thur 12-9pm, Fri-Sat 12-10pm, Sun 12-8pm

Website:bitemehanddipped.com

Why we love it: Besides having a cute back story, Bite Me brought a new way to enjoy ice cream to Boise. They serve dipped ice cream bars and frozen bananas. They have alllll kinds of creations, toppings, and flavor combos - some that you would never think of.

The Creamery at Merrill Park

📍637 E Shore Drive, Eagle

Hours: Every day 11am-9pm

Website: instagram.com/thecreameryidaho

Why we love it: How could you not love a teeny tiny ice cream shack located in a beautiful park? Enjoy a day or evening on the playground or splash pad, and top it off with a classic ice cream cone.

Lovejoy's Real Ice Cream

📍1760 S Meridian Rd #101, Meridian

Hours: Mon-Thur 12-10pm, Fri-Sat 12-11pm

Website:lovejoysicecream.com

Why we love it: It's the real deal! They make small batches of ice cream, and serve it in homemade waffle cones, as a five-scoop ice cream flight, in a shake, as a sundae, or topped with a fresh baked cookie. And they always include free sprinkles.

Indulge Boise written by Julie Sarasqueta; photos are by Arianna Kharizz When Angela Taylor left Idaho in the late 1980s, Idaho wasn’t exactly a food destination. Unless you count potatoes. “As many of us know when we travel and mention you’re from Idaho, that glazed look comes over everybody’s eyes,” she says. After moving back to the state, she knew she wanted to do something that would change people’s perceptions while introducing them to the state she loves. “What’s a tangible experience...

Live, work, create. You may have seen or heard these three words in relation to Garden City. There’s a neighborhood there dubbed the Surel Mitchell Live-Work-Create District, spanning 32nd to 37th Streets on either side of Chinden. It’s a neighborhood of many things – longtime residents in small houses, mobile homes, trailers; big metal warehouses storing who knows what; wineries and breweries; a few small businesses, a coffee shop, a market, a couple of bars; clusters of artists’ studios; a...
