Hi! Happy long weekend! Whatcha doing this weekend? I'm headed to Oregon for a lil road trip & I'm kinda sad to be missing out on some of the events happening this weekend! There's lots of fun stuff going on. Listen to me chat about some of them on the podcast.

Weekend parties & festivals

All weekend

  • ​Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is going on Friday-Sunday. There’s a launch on Friday morning plus the Nite Glow Spectacular on Friday night, and morning launches on both Saturday and Sunday. Read more info & my tips for where to watch here.

Friday, August 30

  • ​Labor Day Weekend Luau happening at Lost Grove Brewing (La Pointe Street). There will be a pig roast with Hawaiian BBQ plates for $15, beach gear costume contest, and music. Starts at 5pm.

Sunday, September 1

  • ​Realms Block Party "Endless Summer" is happening at Realms Arcade. It’s an all ages block party with live music, arcade games, inflatable obstacle course, dunk tank, food & drinks, and more! Tix are $15 online or $20 at the door. Goes 12-10pm.
  • ​Bikes, Beers & Bluegrass Festival is happening at Tamarack Resort from 12-7pm. There will be local beers to taste, live music, bike vendors, and more. You can also bike the trails before and end with a cold beer. Bring your own chair!
  • ​Idaho Jewish Festival is happening at Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel (11 N Latah Street) from 9:30am-9pm. This event used to be Deli Days and then took a few years off and has since rebranded to Idaho Jewish Festival. There will be live music, dancing, and lots of food including deli sandwiches, bagels, knishes, beer, wine, and delectable desserts from Goldstein’s Bagels & Bialys and baked good from Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel. You can also tour the synagogue (which used to be in downtown Boise - read that story here). Admission is free and all are welcome!

  • ​Happy Idaho Market is happening at Julius Kleiner Memorial Park from 6-9pm. It’s a night time market with lots of local vendors.

Saturday, August 31

  • ​End of Summer Market is happening at Pure Bliss Baking (201 N Orchard St) on Orchard Street from 10am-2pm. Enjoy long-fermented sourdough from the bakery and shop hand crafted items and other goodies from local vendors.
  • ​Boise Farmers Market is happening from 9am-1pm at 1500 Shoreline Drive in Boise. This one is a food-focused market with local farmers, ranchers, and producers, plus a few food trucks. Also fyi no dogs allowed.
  • ​Capital City Public Market is happening from 9:30am-1:30pm on the Grove Plaza in downtown Boise. Art, baked goods, produce, herbs and spices, clothing, jewelry, and more.
  • ​Meridian Main Street Market is happening from 9am-2pm at City Hall Plaza & next to Meridian City Hall. Find fresh produce, artisan goods, crafts, and more.
  • ​Nampa Farmers Market is happening from 9am-1:30pm in Lloyd Square Park in Nampa. Tons of vendors to shop!
  • ​Eagle Saturday Market is going on from 9am-2pm at Eagle City Hall Campus. There’s food and craft vendors, and live music.

Thursday, August 29

  • Comedian Sammy Obeid is performing at Lounge at the End of the Universe at 7pm. He’s been on the Last Comic Standing and America's Got Talent, Conan, and more. Tix are $30 for GA, $38 for rows 2-4, or $45 for VIP front row.
  • ​Art of Sustainability: Artists Inspiring Eco-Consciousness is happening at the Erma Hayman House from 6-8:30pm. It’s a talk with Boise artist Teal Gardner and other members of the Ecogeoglyphic Observatory and explores present-day industrial and residential development in the region surrounding Boise, Idaho, and the effects that this process has over the region's plants, animals, water, stone, soil, and people. It’s free but registration is required.

Friday, August 30

  • ​Zoo’s Line is it Anyway?, an animal-themed improv comedy show, is happening at Zoo Boise at 6pm. Food, beer, wine, and other drinks will be available for purchase. Tix are $20 and 100% of all ticket sales will go directly to support wildlife conservation.
  • Comedians Jasmine Rogers + Marina Wool are performing at Mad Swede Brew Hall Downtown. Show starts at 7pm and tix are $20.
  • ​ComedySportz is happening at The Creative Space in Garden City at 7:30pm. This show has two teams competing for laughs to score points and walk away the winner. The Referee takes fan suggestions and ensures everything that happens stays suitable for everyone. Tix are $15 online or $20 at the door.

Saturday, August 31

  • ​"It's A Conspiracy!" Comedy Show is happening at 8pm. The topic is Hollywood. Tix are $15 for adults or $5 for kids (age 5-12). It’s at Recycled Minds in Garden City.
  • Comedians Jasmine Rogers + Marina Wool are performing at Mad Swede Brew Hall Downtown. Show starts at 7pm and tix are $20.

Food finds & things to drink

  • ​Green Acres Food Truck Park is celebrating the holiday weekend with extended hours, 12 bands, 17 food trucks, and face painting. You can see the schedule and list of food trucks here.

Saturday, August 31

  • ​Free Bacon to celebrate International Bacon Day is happening at BACON restaurant in downtown Boise. They will be handing out free bacon on the patio and doing a bacon giveaway. Goes all day, 8am-2pm.

Sunday, September 1

  • ​Sunnyslope Wine Festival is happening at Ste. Chapelle Winery from 12-5pm. Enjoy wine tastings from 15 different wineries as well as food, art, and live music. Tix are $60 or $25 for non-drinkers.

New beer releases

  • ​Lost Grove Brewing is releasing a Pedal Powered Pilsner in collaboration with Boise Bicycle Project.
  • ​Payette Brewing is releasing a Oktoberfest MΓ€rzen Lager, which will be available through Oktoberfest.
  • ​Sockeye Brewing is releasing a new Hoppy Golden Ale, brewed in collaboration with Odell Brewing of Fort Collins, Colorado and Roy Farms of Moxee, Washington.
  • ​Barbarian Brewing is releasing four new beers! A Bavarian-style MΓ€rzen Lager, a Bavarian-style Festbier, a Pumpkin spiced Porter, and a non-alcoholic Bavarian-style MΓ€rzen Lager. Yumm!

  • It’s Wes Anderson Day at The Egyptian Theatre. Moonrise Kingdom is showing at 11am. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is showing at 2pm. The Grand Budapest Hotel is showing at 5pm. The Royal Tenenbaums is showing at 8pm. Tix are $10 for each movie or you can buy a day pass for $20.
  • ​Pitch-A-Friend is happening at Voodoo Cellar at 7pm. Do you have an amazing single friend? You can pitch them to a room full of people in a 3-5 min slide presentation during this event. Presentations are followed by socializing.
  • ​Idaho River Sports Used & New Gear Sale is happening from 10am-6pm. Get 75% off new & used river gear. A lil end of summer treat for the river enthusiasts!
  • ​Learn how to grow great garlic at North End Organic Nursery. The class is from 1-2pm and it’s free but you need to register in advance.
  • ​Paranormal Investigation is happening at the Old Idaho Penitentiary at 9:15pm. See if you can connect with prisoners and guards of the past. This event is open to people ages 13+ (usually its 18+) and those under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Tix are $40.
