In today's newsletter you will find mom's day events, markets and festivals happening this weekend, plus tons of live music and comedy shows. Mom's Day weekend

  • Fri May 10: Spyglass Gardens is hosting their 24th annual Mother’s Day Tour De Farm event starting at 11am. Enjoy a farm tour and buy your choice of hanging baskets, unique vessels, bedding plants, herbs, and veggie starts.
  • Fri May 10: Mother’s Day Floral Pop-up with Fireweed Floral happening at Barbarian Brewing (Garden City) from 5-8pm. They will be selling designer’s choice arrangements & there's 3 food trucks on site too.
  • Fri May 10: Mother’s Day Wine & Floral event happening at Franz Witte Nampa at 6pm. There will be wine, music, free stretches from Stretch Lab and flowers, of course. No reservations needed.
  • Sat May 11: Huston Vineyards is having a Mother's Day Brunch in the Vineyard from 10am-12pm. Enjoy brunch paired with Huston wines. Tix are $65.
  • Sat May 11: Warhawk Air Museum is celebrating Mother’s Day with FREE admission for all moms from 10am-5pm.
  • Sat May 11: Mother’s Day Blowout Event happening at Brix Lane Hair & Co from 10am-2pm. There will be $50 blowouts, a mimosa bar, permanent jewelry, and a make your own bouquet station.
  • Sat May 11: Jordan's Garden Center is hosting Mother's Day food trucks, mimosas, and music from 2-6pm. Plus tons of plants and flowers!
  • Sat May 11: Art Source Gallery’s Mother’s Day Market is happening from 11am-5pm. There will be everything from stained glass, textiles, painting, jewelry and more.
  • Sat May 11: The Bloom Bar at The Village at Meridian is doing a Building your Own Bouquets event from 10am-2pm. Flowers are also available for purchase.
  • Sat May 11: Indian Creek Plaza is having a Mother’s Day Market from 10am-3pm. Go sip on mimosas, listen to live music, and shop from 50+ vendors.
  • Say May 11: Sagebrush Collective is having a Mother’s Day Pop-up from 11am-3pm. There will be treats, tattoos, bouquet making, and much more.
  • Sat May 11: Maddie’s Wine & Whiskey in Meridian is hosting a Sip & Sparkle Wine Event from 12-5pm. Tix are $35 a person and includes 3 samples of rosé and sparkling wine from 10+ vendors.
  • Sat May 11: Victory Gardens is having a Grand Opening Party + Mother’s Day Market starting at 10am. There will be discounts, prize giveaways, an all day craft and food vendor market surrounded by plants, flowers, and water fountains.
  • Sat May 11: Mother’s Day Market is going on at Telaya Wine from 2-5pm. Enjoy shopping from an array of local vendors with a glass of wine in hand.
  • Sun May 12: The Balcony is hosting Second Sunday Slay Mothers Day Drag Brunch from 11am-1pm. There's a waffle bar, bottomless mimosas & a fabulous drag show. Tix are $15-$360. 21+
  • Sun May 12: House of Poppy Florals is doing a DIY Mother's Day Basket event from 9am-1pm. Sounds cute!
  • Sun May 12: Hillfort Farm is hosting Mothers Day Brunch at the Farm. There will be brunch, live music and baby goats! Tix are $10-$55 and going quick.
  • Sun May 12: Wahooz has free mini golf for moms! Goes 10:30-8pm.
  • Sun May 12: Mother's Day SoundBath & Circle is happening at Portal Collective at 3pm. It's designed especially for moms!

Weekend festivals

  • Th-Sat May 9-11: The Boise Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival is happening this weekend from 10am-5pm Thursday-Friday and 10am-4pm Saturday. Find a wide variety of Sewing, Quilting, Needle-Art and Craft supply exhibits from many quality companies. It's at Expo Idaho and it's free.
  • Sat-Sun May 11-12: The annual Beltane Fantasy Festival is happening at Expo Idaho from 10am-7pm. There will be live music, dancing, theatre performances, fire performers, entertainers, and tons of vendors. It's family-friendly and free for ages 0-8, $10 for ages 9+.
  • Sat May 11: Boise Hemp Fest is happening starting at 10am at Julia Davis Park. It's an event that focuses on information and facts about cannabis and brings awareness to Idaho's laws around marijuana. There will be speakers, education, live entertainment, a munchies market, a beer garden, art, and fun for the kids. The fest is free & family friendly.
  • PS - here's some weed facts for you: For Oregon's 2023 cannabis sales, the most cannabis was sold in Multnomah County, which had $221 million in cannabis sales in 2023. Malheur County in Eastern Oregon (45 min from Boise) had the next highest sales at $100.3 million, according to Portland Business Journal.
  • Multnomah County has 801,306 residents, and that works out to $276 of cannabis sales per county resident. Malheur County has 32,981 residents, which works out to $3,042 of cannabis sales per county resident. Malheur County has had the highest rate per capita of retail cannabis sales from 2020-2023. So, are the residents of Malheur County just super stoners, or...?

  • Fri May 10: Children’s Business Fair is going on at The Village at Meridian from 4-7pm. The fair supports courageous youth as they step out and offer their gifts and passion to the world.
  • Sat May 11: Boise Farmers Market is happening from 9am-1pm at 1500 Shoreline Drive in Boise. This one is a food-focused market. Also fyi no dogs allowed.
  • Sat May 11: Capital City Public Market is happening from 9:30am-1:30pm on the Grove Plaza in downtown Boise. Art, baked goods, produce, herbs and spices, clothing, jewelry, and more.
  • Sat May 11: Meridian Main Street Market is happening from 9am-2pm at City Hall Plaza & next to Meridian City Hall. Find fresh produce, artisan goods, crafts, and more.
  • Sat May 11: Nampa Farmers Market is going on from 9am-1:30pm in Lloyd Square Park in Nampa. Tons of vendors to shop!
  • Sat May 11: Eagle Saturday Market is happening from 9am-2pm at Eagle City Hall Campus. There’s food and craft vendors, and live music.
  • Sat May 11: GemState 208 Market in Kuna is happening from 9am-4pm at The Farm Estates Park (1450 N. Massey Ave). Over 50 vendors, plus food trucks and a raffle.
  • Sat May 11: No New Vintage Market is happening at The Linen Building from 10am-4pm. There will be tons of vintage goods.
  • Sat May 11: TRICA’s Maypole Market is happening at TRICA in the North End from 10am-1pm. There's a maypole (duh!), mom's day flowers, The Children’s Entrepreneur Market, art projects and much more!
  • Sun May 12: The Boise Flea is happening from 10-4pm in BSU Stadium parking lot. There will be 100+ vendors, food trucks, Push & Pour coffee cart, and so many treasures. Parking is $5.
  • Sun May 12: 36th Street Sunday Market is happening at Sockeye Alehouse. There's an eclectic mix of items from spices, artwork/crafts, fresh produce, and more. Goes 10am-2pm, and brunch is served in the Alehouse next door!
  • Tue May 14: Caldwell's Farm to Fork Farmers Market is happening at Indian Creek Plaza from 5-8pm. Find tons of local producers, plus live music, local restaurants and more.

Ok so y'all have been asking me to include genres with the shows for awhile and I finally did it. It's surprising kind of hard because a lot of artist bios don't tell you the genre of the music, which is a pet peeve of mine that I won't get into. Here's what's coming up:

  • Th-Sun May 9-12: The Boise Bard Players are performing Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth, at Surel's Place. This minimalist production promises to captivate audiences with the timeless struggle of free will versus fate, set against the botanical backyard of the iconic artist residence. The shows start at 7pm and tix are $20-$35.
  • Fri May 10: Comedian Paula Poundstone is performing at the Egyptian Theatre at 8pm. Tix are $30-$40.
  • Fri May 10: Watson's Live! Improv Insanity Adult Comedy Show is happening at Watson's Cafe. Tix are $15-$45 and doors open at 7pm. 18+
  • Fri May 10: Hap Hap Lounge is hosting Off-Season Stories - a Storyfort event from 5-7pm. The event is free, 21+, and there will be multiple people reading.
  • Sat May 11: Dry Bar Comedy Tour is coming to Jewett Auditorium at The College of Idaho. Comedians include Dennis Gaxiola, Kermet Apio, and Spencer King. Tix are $8-$30. It's all ages.
  • Sat May 11: Comedian Michael Carbonaro is at The Egyptian Theatre at 8pm. Tix start at $39.50.
  • Sun May 12: Campfire Stories is kicking off at The Modern. This month's storytellers are JR Rivero Kinsey, Sarah Sentilles, and Taryn Birdsall. It's free! Also mark your calendar for August 11 From Boise edition of Campfire Stories.
  • Sun May 12: Mother's Day Comedy Show happening at the Lounge at the End of the Universe at 2pm. Tix are $20. Moms get a free drink!

Food finds & things to drink

  • Th May 9: Barbarian Brewing is releasing two new beers today & they pair perfectly with this summery weather. Go try the Watermelon Wheat & Orange Creamsicle!
  • Fri May 10: Join Kanak Attack for the Grand Opening of their Lakeharbor Lane location from 12-7pm. It will be a day filled with delicious food, fun activities, and great company.
  • Fri May 10: Happy 14th bday Mother Earth Brew Co! There will be food, live music and beer, of course. Party is happening at the Nampa taproom.
  • Sat May 11: Sturman's Wine & Cigars is hosting its annual Pop the Top Party, where they take down the patio tents and party while doing so. There's music, golf games, food, and drinks. If you haven't been on their patio, it's incredible!
  • Sat-Sun May 11-12: Happy 13th bday Payette Brewing! They have a ton of events happening all weekend to celebrate.
  • Sun May 12: The 2nd Annual Peruvian Food Festival is happening at Heroes Park in Meridian from 11am-6pm. There's lots of food, games, and music.

Things to do

  • Th May 9: Join Zoo Boise for an Adaptive Evening at the Zoo, an after hours zoo experience designed for individuals with disabilities and their families and friends! Stations are focused on varying degrees of sensory input and will include self-guided animal artifact exploration, guided zoo exploration time, up close animal encounters, and art activities, and more. Tix are $8 and space is limited.
  • Th May 9: Unleash Your Inner Detective at a 1920s Murder Mystery Party at Watson’s Mystery Cafe. There will be lots of riddle solving, dancing, live music, dinner, and much more. Tix are $35 just to play the game or $62 with dinner.
  • Th May 9: Boise Run Club is meeting up at Payette Brewing tonight at 6pm for a Run Club Mixer. Connect with fellow runners, walkers, and hikers. It’s free!
  • Th-Sat May 9-11: Animal Days is going on at Shindig Farms in Nampa from 10am-6pm. You will have the opportunity to hold & pet the animals, take tractor rides, try the zip line, and so much more. Tix are $13.75 get them while you can.
  • Th-Sun May-May 12: Boise Music Week is bringing Cinderella Live to The Morrison Center. Don't miss this chance to be swept away by timeless melodies and dazzling performances.
  • Fri May 10: Egyptian Theatre is bringing us a blast from the past by showing a Silent Movie at 12pm. Seating is first come first served. It's free!
  • Fri May 10: Night of The Mummies Adult Night is happening at The Discovery Center from 6-10pm. This 21+ event will be an extraordinary evening filled with mummies, artifacts and its experts. Enjoy food and drinks from local vendors Lost Grove Brewing, La Crepe Boise, Bochi Bochi and Walkin Takos. I just went to this exhibit and it was so cool!
  • Fri May 10: Girls’ Night Out Free Dance Party is happening at 7:15pm at Fred Astaire Dance Studio. Come learn the basics for a variety of partner dance styles, no experience or partner required. It's free!
  • Sat May 11: Cars & Coffee is happening at Lupo’s Motors from 9-11am. Go see some cool cars and enjoy some tasty coffee. It's free!
  • Sat May 11: Meridian Parks & Recreation is excited to offer a week's worth of free activities in sports and recreation for all ages with their Unplug and Be Outside Kick-off from 10am-2pm. All activities are free, and prizes will be awarded to those who participate in the challenges.
  • Sat May 11: Retired Theatre Kids: A Broadway Drag & Burlesque Show is happening at The Balcony from 7-10pm. Tix are $10-$100. 21+
  • Sat-Sun May 11-12: Roaring Springs opening weekend! The waterpark will be open this weekend 11am-7pm and next weekend, then open seven days a week starting Memorial Day Weekend (May 25). Also heads up, season pass sales ($170) end tomorrow, Friday May 10.

I'm sure you've seen the river at some point in the last few months - it's rippin. Technically, the Boise River floods every year, yet those "floods" are not anywhere near as intense as in years past. But some of those past floods were incredibly damaging. Like on July 4, 1862, when a flood reportedly reached from Boise all the way to Caldwell. Another flood in 1959 had bulldozers pushing mud out of Boise streets and residents shoveling 10-inch-deep mud off their sidewalks and driveways....
