Guess who's back, back again

Hey! It's Thursday, which is when I send you a bunch of Boise happenings. This week it's about markets making a comeback, Radio Boise's bday, a few places to go eat and drink, some good tunes, and a few things to do.

Revival of The Roosevelt Market

Guess whaaat: The Roosevelt Market is back!

Exterior of the new Roosevelt Market

In case you aren't familiar, The Roosevelt Market opened in 1990 and was the cherished neighborhood market of Boise's East End. Its closure in 2018 was a very sad day for many people. There was talk of plans to revive it, then nothing happened.

This morning, the resurrected Roosevelt Market had a soft opening. Just in time for Easter.

Beautiful pastries baked in-house

The Roosevelt Market has been brought back to life by Jill Simplot, Pam Lemley, and Tyler Cook (the market's GM). You can swing by for coffee, fresh pastries baked in-house, build-your-own sammys, fresh local produce, and other pantry staples. They also have a walk-up order window outside, patio seating, and Wi-Fi.

You can expect a story on the Market's revival in a few weeks, but for now go check it out yourself! 311 N Elm Ave, Boise, 83712

And in other market news... The Boise Farmer’s Market returns this weekend. Last year, BFM pivoted to an impressive online ordering and drive-through pick-up system. It's planning to resume those operations for the 2021 season and the first pick-up is this Saturday, April 3.

Nampa Farmer's Market also announced a phased-opening plan starting April 10, with a grand opening planned for April 24.

PS - Looking for a job? The Nampa Farmer's Market is looking to hire a Market Manager.

And last but not least, Boise Flea Market starts back up on April 11.

Happy 10th birthday, Radio Boise!

Radio Boise is turning 10 on April 7. They went on the airwaves for the first time on April 7, 2011.

Our community radio station has done soo much for Boise's music scene - more than most of us realize. You will get the full story on Radio Boise soon. But for now, check out their documentary project (below) to celebrate 10 years on air.

If you aren't listening to Radio Boise, you are missing out! Tune in at 93.5FM (downtown Boise), 89.9FM (Boise and beyond), or online.

In the mood for food (and beer)

  • What has clams, bacon, and a new location? Casanova Pizza.
  • Push & Pour has been slingin' Slow Rider sandwiches on Saturdays 2pm-6pm.
  • Txikiteo is reopening next week on April 7 - yay!
  • Have you checked out The Lively? It's a new downtown Boise eatery that's open for business (and offers reservations).
  • Cucina Di Paolo is open again following the owner’s death :(
  • Barbarian Brewing is releasing three new beers today.
  • Western Collective is opening a new concept in downtown called Western Proper. It will be a restaurant, music venue, game lounge, and have a patio.

Tunes, shows & artsy stuff

Blood Lemon's video for Burned (above). Created by a few Boise locals: starring Lily Sievers; directed, filmed & animated (stop-motion) by Jason Sievers; live footage filmed by Taylor Mace at a socially distanced show hosted by KIN in Boise, ID. My fave part is when the leaf falls on Melanie's hair and catches on fire.

Things to do (finally)

I feel like I am missing stuff to do, since we're a bit rusty on the whole socializing thing. If you are organizing an event or know something cool to do, holler at me --> marissa@fromboise.com

Just trust me...

A true Boise hello on the Greenbelt. And over in Esther Simplot Park, there's turtles, geese, and "that rodent thing" - oh my!

Thanks for reading!

With love from Boise,
