Boise's bagel shops

We are experiencing a wave of new bagel shops & I am thrilled. Here's a few to check out:

Good Times Bagels just opened last week! They serve wood-fired bagels in a cute lil shop at 2422 W Main Street in Boise. I went yesterday and it was bomb.

Goldstein's opened last year & serves a variety of bagels and bialys (a traditional Polish bread roll). The shop is at 611 S 8th Street in Boise.

Freedom Bagel Bakery quietly opened in spring of 2022 in Meridian. They have artisan sourdough bagels! Located at 2847 N Eagle Road, Suite 100, in Meridian.

Sarah's Bagel Cafe is not really new but it is really good. They have three locations: 840 West Idaho Street in downtown Boise, 450 S Meridian Road, Suite 15, in Meridian, and 509 12th Ave Road in Nampa.

And of course there's Blue Sky Bagels, the OG.

Winter weekend things

Jan 27-Feb 5: The McCall Winter Carnival kicks off tomorrow & goes through next Sunday. It's a multi-day festival to celebrate all things snow & winter. Highlights include incredible snow sculptures, live music, parades, dog sled races, snowshoe golf & much more. Also fyi starting in 2024, the event is only going to be one weekend at the end of Feb. Jan 29-Feb 2: The Idaho Sled Dog Races are happening in the mountains around Cascade. You can go watch from the starting line or from various check points. Please do not bring your dog, as it distracts the dogs that are there to race! More info here.

Need your skis/board waxed?

Meet Aprés Mobile Ski Tech, a new & awesome option for getting your skis or snowboard tuned/waxed/fixed! I just got my skis waxed and sharpened by him & it was amazing. Super easy & fast, prices are great & quality of work is excellent. He has a whole shop set up in a trailer, and you can either drop your stuff off or wait while he works. Here's his schedule:

Wednesdays & Thursdays from 4-8 PM in the parking lot of Das Alpenhaus Delikatessen &Bikes and Beans

Fridays & Saturdays from 4-9 PM at Payette Brewing. You get BOGO beers while you wait!

He's also running a Community Tuning Bench at New Colony Brewing on Orchard. This bench is outfitted with professional grade tools and wax that anyone can use for free! Donations pay for upgrading supplies and buying more wax.
