Bingo dogs, garden plans & hot noodz

A few Tuesday follow ups...

A lot of you wrote to me with info/questions about Celebration Park. Thank you! If you didn't read the story, here it is. A few follow up things for y'all:

  • There's bullet holes in the historic bridge because pilots from Gowen Field practiced in the area during World War II. (Thanks Fred!)
  • The camel's name is Clyde and he competes in pageants. (Thanks, Sharon!) What kind of pageant would a camel compete in? I have no idea.
  • Another thing to do in the Celebration Park area is go wine tasting on the Sunnyslope Wine Trail. If you wanna pair petroglyphs with a pinot.
  • There's a few cemeteries in the area, if that's your thing. (It is my thing.) There is Melba Cemetery; the Swayne Family Cemetery which is within Cleo's Ferry Museum; Wilson Cemetery on the other side of the river, which you can cross on Hwy 45 near Cleos' Ferry Museum; and if you are looking for a real adventure, Reynolds Cemetery is in the middle of nowhere about 40 minutes from Celebration Park.
  • The Snake River isn't always safe to swim in. No river is! Please use extra caution when swimming anywhere, but especially moving water. Remember this story? Be safe y'all! (Thanks, Sandy!)

Garden planning

Good Life Farms just put out a really cool ebook guide to Growing Vegetables in the Treasure Valley. It's only $6 and includes:

  • An intro to soil prep
  • Instructions on direct sowing & transplanting
  • A comprehensive list of veggies that do well in our area & planting details
  • Info on sizing your garden & garden layouts
  • A calendar with important dates that can link to your Google cal & give you updates on when you should be planting, etc.

I will admit I bought one & then had to force myself to finish this newsletter instead of planning out my garden.

Tunes & shows

Two Treefort things: since this is the 10th festival, Treefort is asking people to share their fave memories for an archive! Also, there's some cool volunteer opps with the fest, including a new FAB volunteer program for people who work in restaurants and for groups. (Full disclosure I also work at Treefort)

Just updated the show calendar again! See all upcoming shows at fromboise.com/shows
