Hello my friends! Happy NYE weekend. Here's a huge list of places to ring in the new year, plus some Treefort 2024 news and other things to do. Hope you are having a great in-between holidays week!

New Year's parties

Sat Dec 30: New Year's Eve Burlesque & Cabaret at Neurolux. Tix are $20-$40. 21+

Sun Dec 31: ​Hap Hap Lounge is doing a black & white NYE party with DJs, a special drink menu, & champagne toast at midnight. Tickets start at $30 with group packages and VIP seating available. 21+

Sun Dec 31: Lounge at the End of the Universe is throwing a Rabbit Rager! New Year's Eve Party. It's a wonderland of DJS spinning electro-swing, plus costume contests, food, champagne toast & more. Tix are $35-$100.​

Sun Dec 31: V​oodoo Cellar is having a party and doing a beer for a year giveaway. It's $20 at the door between 9pm-12am and includes a raffle ticket and champagne toast! 21+​

Sun Dec 31: Thick as Thieves NYE Party is spendy but a sweet deal. Tix are $150-$175 and includes reserved seating, open bar, snacks, and a midnight champagne toast, and gratuity. Tables seat 2-6 guests. 21+​

Sun Dec 31: Gatsby New Year's Eve Gala is $225 per person and includes table seating, open bar, food, party favors, live music and a champagne toast. Also fyi Gatsby has a dress code. 21+​

Sun Dec 31: Mad Swede Brewery Hop Drop is happening at the brewery (2772 South Cole Road #140, Boise). It's inside and they drop a giant hop at midnight. There's live music by The Soulmates, free parking, pizza, drinks, and champagne toast at midnight. It's free!​

Sun Dec 31: Mad Swede Brew Hall Hygge New Year's Eve is happening downtown (816 West Bannock Street in Boise). Hygge is a Nordic concept describing a quality of coziness. Mad Swede downtown is having a cozy NYE party with hot mulled wine and beer all night long, Guru donuts, board games (byo if you want), and if you wear pajamas you get $1 off your first drink. It's free!

Sun Dec 31: Downtown Boise's New Year's Eve Block Party is happening at the 6th & Main bars: Amsterdam Lounge , Dirty Little Roddy's, Karma, and StrangeLove. It's a $25 ticket to enter all 4 bars and includes champagne toasts and drink specials all night, plus door prizes and more. You can also reserve limo service and table reservations. 21+​

Sun Dec 31: Sturman's Wine & Cigars New Year's Eve Party starts at 7pm. You can reserve tables and fire pits which includes an assortments of apps, dessert, and bottle of champagne. If you don't make a reservation it's $25 at the door & includes a glass of bubbles. 21+

Sun Dec 31: Cowgirls in Kuna NYE Party is happening starting at 7pm with dancing, apps, and drinks. Free entry from 7-8pm, then it's $25 at the door. There's also VIP reservations. 21+

Sun Dec 31: Twisted District Brew Co is hosting New Years Eve Dueling Pianos from 6-9:30pm. There's food, drinks, and more! Tix are $15 and tables are available to reserve, too.

Sun Dec 31: Heritage Social NYE Bash with Tylor and the Train Robbers, DJ Locomotive, and more is happening from 7pm-late. They also have pool tables, pinball, darts, and more. Tix are $20-$30 online, or $40 at the door. 21+

Sun Dec 31: Spacebar Arcade has free game play all day! After 8pm there's a $10 cover. 21+

Sun Dec 31: Barbarian Brewing New Year's Eve Silent Disco is happening at the brewery in Garden City from 7-11pm. Tix are $20. They are ringing in the new year at 10pm, so you can head home early or make it to another party. 21+

Mon Jan 1: Bogus Basin New Year's fireworks and parade is happening from 5-9pm. It's free!

Treefort news

Last week Treefort announced a bunch of new things for the upcoming festival, which is happening March 20-24, 2024. Here's everything that was announced recently:

More artists added to the lineup. 145 more artists to be exact. There's a ton of international acts this year. You can read a blog about it here (I wrote most of it lol) and you can start listening here.

Here's a few artists I'm excited for. My musical taste tends toward psychedelic rock and hard rock and weird instrumental stuff, but for the below I went a lil more broad for ya:

• ​GHOSTWOMAN - this might be my new fave band
• ​Franc Moody - gonna be a funnn dance party
• ​Alexandra Savior - big time Lana Del Rey vibe
• ​Pokey LaFarge - this is gonna be a fun show
• ​DakhaBrakha - a must see show, just trust me
• ​Nabihah Iqbal - I really dig her dreamy pop tunes
• ​Spiritual Cramp - a new age Clash
• ​Zea Mays - a true Basque band coming from Bilbao, Spain
• ​Glitterfox - idk what this genre is but I like her voice
• ​Fin del Mundo - all girl indie rock band from Argentina, luv them

Mini fort announce. Treefort announced a handful of people coming to the forts of Treefort:

• ​Comedyfort is bringing in Janeane Garofalo for one show, you can buy tickets to it or its included with a festival pass. They also announced comedians Brittany Carney, Derek Sheen, and queer comedy duo Girl God. More info here.
• ​Hackfort announced the 2024 theme of "connections" and the first speaker, Matt Klein, who is an award-winning writer, speaker, critical researcher, and advisor focused on cultural fluency and the future.
• ​Kidfort announced a few performers. They are also recruiting Treefort Cadets, which is a spring break mentorship program for 12-15 year olds. And submissions are open for the Youth Variety Showcase, those close on Feb 5.
• ​Podfort announced two headliner podcasts. Both of these are happening at The Egyptian. Beautiful/Anonymous is a podcast where the host, comedian Chris Gethard, takes one phone call from a random anonymous stranger. All Fantasy Everything is a podcast where funny people and experts come together to fantasy draft pop culture, from music to movies to sandwiches, everything is in play.

All Treefort 2024 tickets on sale. Treefort also put all tickets on sale, including 5-day festival passes, Single Day passes, Main Stage passes, and passes to a brand new lounge at the Main Stage called Lookout Lounge.

Fri Jan 5: Yogafort is hosting a Yogafort Launch Party at Treefort Music Hall at 7pm. It's an all-levels yoga class followed by a Dance Commander class. Sounds super fun! Tix are $25.

Tunes & shows

TONIGHT: Crate Diggers Happy Hour is happening from 5-7pm at Hap Hap Lounge. It's a social gathering for record collectors and music enthusiasts. The theme this week is International Artists. It's free! 21+

• TONIGHT: Story Story Night's REWiND is happening at 6pm at JUMP. Hear real stories inspired by the rewind button on a tape deck. Tix are $17.
• Sat Dec 30: ComedySportz Match, an improv comedy sporting event, is happening at TVCT Studio (440 W. Pennwood #100, Meridian) at 7pm. Tix are $15 online or $20 at the door.
• Sat Dec 30: Stand Up Strip Down Body Positive Comedy Show is happening at The Balcony. It's a body positive comedy show where performers bring a whole new meaning to "bare your soul." Tix are $23. 21+

Things to do

• TONIGHT: Go watch a movie from your childhood. The Egyptian Theatre is showing ​Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) at 11am, ​Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) at 1:30pm, ​Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows at 4:30pm, and ​Labyrinth (1986) at 7pm. Tix are $10 for adults and $7 for kids.
• Th-Sun Dec 28-31: SIX The Musical is happening at The Morrison Center. There's multiple showtimes each day. Tix start at $49.
• Fri Dec 29: Go to Flamenco Tablao, an evening of Flamenco dancing and music at the Lounge at the End of the Universe. It's at 6pm and tix are $15.
• Fri Dec 29: More movies showing at The Egyptian Theatre. ​Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) at 11am, ​Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at 1:30pm, ​The Blues Brothers at 4pm, and ​The Breakfast Club at 7pm. Tix are $10 for adults and $7 for kids.
• Sat Dec 30: Even more movies at The Egyptian Theatre! Bye Bye Birdie (1963) at 11am, ​The Karate Kid (1984) at 1:30pm, Weird Science at 4:30pm, and Scarface at 7pm.
• Sat Dec 30: Handcrafted Mysteries, an immersive magic performance featuring the original illusions of Greg Van Holsbeck, is happening at Bodovino Downtown. Tix are $25.
• Mon Jan 1: Join a First Day Hike at Luck Peak. It's a fam-friendly event where you meander along the greenbelt at Sandy Point Unit of Lucky Peak State Park from 10am-1pm. There's self-guided activity hikes pertaining to animal tracks, birding, and the solar system. It's free!
