Meet the woman helping Boise feel better

Have you ever felt like something was “off” in your body, but you couldn’t quite figure out what? Maybe your doc ran some tests and put you on meds to help manage your symptoms, but it didn’t really solve the issue.

That’s exactly what led Lyndsy Kinghorn to functional medicine. (and exactly what led me to Lyndsy!) After years working in the ER and struggling with her own health issues, she realized there was another way to approach wellness. Now, she’s helping people in Boise get to the root of their symptoms and feel like themselves again.

Let me introduce you to FNDATN Functional Medicine.

What the heck is functional medicine?

"We like to say root cause medicine," she told me. "The goal is to understand why you're having the symptom, instead of just managing it."

Usually when you go to the doctor, they check you out, maybe order some labs, prescribe medication, and send you on your way. When you work with Lyndsy and her team, they start with a deep dive in your health and life history to figure out what might actually be causing the issue. For example, if you come in with migraines, she’s going to ask questions about your diet, hormones, lifestyle, childhood, and more to start working toward finding the real source of the problem.

From ER to FM

Lyndsy didn’t start out in functional medicine – she was a nurse and then a nurse practitioner in the ER. She is also a lifelong athlete. While working shift work in the ER and competing as a CrossFit athlete, she started to feel like crap. Despite working out and eating healthy, she was gaining weight, had digestive issues, and her mental health was suffering. Her conventional doctors and colleagues didn't have many answers.

"I was doing everything I thought was right, but I still felt terrible," she said.

Then she found functional medicine. The comprehensive, holistic approach to her own care changed her life – so much so that Lyndsy decided to shift careers. She enrolled in the American Academy of Anti-Aging Fellowship Program and became a board-certified Anti-Aging Health Practitioner. Soon after she opened FNDATN Functional Medicine in Boise.

What it looks like to work with her

FNDATN Functional Medicine offers both monthly memberships and longer tailored programs, like gut healing, hormone deep dives, or a total vitality program to dig into all your symptoms. Most people start with a free discovery call to make sure it’s a good fit. If you decide to move forward, you’ll meet with a provider and a health coach for your first 90-minute visit, which is essentially a full health history (like all the way back to your birth!) and deep dive into your symptoms.

From there, Lyndsy’s team creates a personalized plan for you based on lab testing, your symptoms, and your goals. The plan might include breathwork, nutrition coaching, supplements, prescriptions, or all of the above.

Lyndsy specializes in gut health and believes it's the root of all disease. She says most patients are with her for about six months to a year.

"My goal is to figure out what’s going on, fix it, and get you back to living your life," she said.

Team approach

FNDATN Functional Medicine isn’t just Lyndsy. Her practice has 12 team members including providers, health coaches, a nutritionist, and a breathwork coach. Patients meet with different team members throughout their program.

Lyndsy didn’t want to build a functional medicine clinic that just replaced prescriptions with supplements. She wanted something more collaborative, personal, and flexible.

"The health journey is physical, mental, and emotional. I wanted our care to reflect that."

Labs & testing

One of the things Lyndsy focuses on is comprehensive lab work. For gut health, that means blood draws, stool samples, and breath tests that look for things like SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). For hormone health, she often digs deeper into thyroid levels than most conventional providers do.

Personally speaking: I just had my labs done and it was so comprehensive! I have Hashitmoto's and it was so helpful to have all of my thyroid hormones tested instead of just one.

Lyndsy says they are a “test not guess” kind of clinic. "We want to see the full picture so we can treat the whole system, not just the symptom," she said.

Bringing the clinic to the trailhead

One of the most unique parts of Lyndsy’s practice is Luxe, a fully outfitted Sprinter van that brings concierge functional medicine care to athletes, executives, and more in Boise and beyond. It’s part camper van, part patient room that meets you wherever you’re at. Lyndsy and her partner built out the van over the course of a year, designing it to be exactly how she envisioned.

"My goal was to treat athletes and adventurers where they are,” she said. Be it the office office, the trails, the river – wherever.

Find your people

If you’re interested in working with Lyndsy or just learning more about what functional medicine is, you can book a free discovery call with FNDATN Functional Medicine here. It just might be the start of a totally different approach to your health.

"You have to find your people," said Lyndsy. "We might not be for everyone, but we’re here for the people who are ready to get answers and feel better."
