Friday is bike to work day

Friday, May 17, is National Bike to Work Day. Here's a few celebratory events happening:

Weekend parties

  • Sat May 18: Taste of Caldwell Wine Festival is happening at Indian Creek Plaza from 5-8pm. Tix are $45 and include 12 wine tastings and a glass.
  • Sat May 18: Asparagus Festival happening at Owyhee Produce (6730 Elmore Rd in Fruitland). Fresh asparagus, food, produce specials and more. Goes 10am-3pm.
  • Sat May 18: Southern Idaho Food Truck Feastival is happening at Boise Hawks Memorial Stadium. There's over 20 food trucks, live music, drinks, kid activities and more. Goes 3-8pm and admission is free!
  • Sat May 18: Boiseko Ikastola Block Party is happening on the Basque Block from 11am-2pm. There will be food and drink (for kids & adults), games, face painting, a photo booth, bounce houses, art projects, and more. It's free!
  • Sat May 18: BUGS Birthday Bash is happening from 10am-2pm. There will be fun activities, free seeds, food samples, and educational information. It's at BUGS, 2995 N Five Mile Road in Boise.
  • Sat May 18: Summer Reading & Learning Celebration is happening at JUMP from 10am-2pm. There will be 20 local exhibitors and tons of events and performances like readings, live music, dance performances, touch-a-truck and more. It's free!
  • Sat May 18: Payette Pup Pawwty is happening from 2-6pm at Payette Brewing. There will be tons of dog vendors, local custom dog treats, Payette pup gear, free sticks, & more.
  • Sat-Sun May 18-19: MOCFest is a LEGO festival and its happening this weekend at ABU Games (7211 W. Colonial St., Boise). There will be make your own creation displays, a scavenger hunt, and brick building activities and contests, plus a few food trucks.
  • Sun May 19: Family Wellness Faire is happening at Karuna Kava. It's a family event with vendors, all ages yoga classes, sound bath meditation, and more. It's free!
  • Sun May 19: International Museum Day is on Sunday and our local museums are gathering at Idaho Botanical Garden for a celebration. Enjoy activities with Boise Art Museum, James Castle House, Discovery Center of Idaho, Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, World Center for Birds of Prey, Zoo Boise and the MK Nature Center. It's from 12-4pm and it's free!

Markets this weekend

  • Sat May 18: Boise Farmers Market is happening from 9am-1pm at 1500 Shoreline Drive in Boise. This one is a food-focused market with local farmers, ranchers, and producers, plus a few food trucks. Also fyi no dogs allowed.
  • Sat May 18: Capital City Public Market is happening from 9:30am-1:30pm on the Grove Plaza in downtown Boise. Art, baked goods, produce, herbs and spices, clothing, jewelry, and more.
  • Sat May 18: Meridian Main Street Market is happening from 9am-2pm at City Hall Plaza & next to Meridian City Hall. Find fresh produce, artisan goods, crafts, and more.
  • Sat May 18: Nampa Farmers Market is happening from 9am-1:30pm in Lloyd Square Park in Nampa. Tons of vendors to shop!
  • Sat May 18: Eagle Saturday Market is going on from 9am-2pm at Eagle City Hall Campus. There’s food and craft vendors, and live music.
  • Sat May 18: Sagebrush Collaborative pop up market is happening from 11am-3pm. Shop local artists and more. It's at 905 W Warren St in Boise.
  • Sat May 18: 208 Night Market is happening at the Hispanic Cultural Center of Idaho (315 Stampede Dr, Nampa) from 7-11pm. It's a food-focused outdoor market dedicated to street food & antojitos.
  • Sun May 19: 36th Street Sunday Market is happening at Sockeye Alehouse. There's a mix of things to buy like spices, artwork/crafts, fresh produce, and more. Goes 10am-2pm, and brunch is served in the Alehouse next door!
  • Tue May 21: Caldwell's Farm to Fork Farmers Market is happening at Indian Creek Plaza from 5-8pm. Find tons of local producers, plus live music, local restaurants and more.

Stop Making Sense

  • Sat May 18: 40th Anniversary Screening of Stop Making Sense is showing at Treefort Music Hall at 8pm, presented by Idaho Film Society. Newly restored in 4K to coincide with its 40th anniversary, the 1984 film was directed by renowned filmmaker Jonathan Demme and is considered by critics as the greatest concert film of all time. It stars core Talking Heads band members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison along with Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, Steve Scales, Lynn Mabry and Edna Holt. The live performance was shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December of 1983 and features Talking Heads’ most memorable songs. Tix are only $12 - get em here.

  • Fri May 17: Comedian Peter Sers is at Voodoo Cellars from 8-10pm. Tix are $20. 21+
  • Fri May 17: Funny Feud Adult Comedy is happening at Watson's Cafe. Tix are $15-$50 and it starts 8pm.
  • Sat May 18: The Late Night Open Mic is happening at Mad Swede Brew Hall at 11pm. It's free!

  • Mon May 20: Author and podcaster Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Big Magic and Eat, Pray, Love) is doing a talk at The Morrison Center. Tix are $48-$78. Starts at 7pm.

  • Th May 16: Vegan Junk Food Pop Up happening at Western Collective. There will be Crispy Chik'n Sandwiches, Loaded Fries and more. Goes 4-8pm.
  • Mon May 20: The Ram in Boise is celebrating its 28th anniversary with a super special: get a Ram Classic Cheeseburger and Original Ram Chips for $1.95. Dine in only, open to close.
  • Tue May 21: The infamous Adelfa's Comida Cubana is at Barbarian Brewing in Garden City from 5pm til sold out.

  • Sat May 18: NENA Mobility Summit & Block Party is happening on 13th Street by Hyde Park. It's an event to learn more about ways to move around Boise. It's free!

  • Sun May 19: Eyes Without a Face is showing at Idaho Film Society at 12pm, Birdman is showing at 5pm, and Tammy & The T-Rex: Gore Cut is showing at 7:30pm. All free!
  • Mon May 20: Hoping to buy your first home? You need to goi to Hops n' Homes First Time Home Buyer Class! It's at White Dog Brewing Co from 6-7:30pm. They cover everything from steps to buying a house, the market in Boise, how to assemble a team, and more. It's free & you get a free drink, too!
  • Tue May 21: There's a KegFit Workout Class happening at Barbarian Brewing. Tix are $10 and includes a "recovery" drink.
  • Wed May 22: Radio Boise Bingo and Karaoke is happening at Shrine Social Club. Bingo from 7-9pm and cards are $5 - proceeds go to Radio Boise. Karaoke starts at 9pm. All ages.
