First Thursday, garden prep, lots of comedy shows & much more

Sup friends. There's lots of fun stuff going on this weekend and next week. Bundle up and get out there! Listen to me talk about some events on today's podcast.

First Thursday tonight

It's First Thursday in downtown Boise & there's a ton of events going on. Lots of drink specials this month! Here's a few highlights:

  • ​Treefort Music Fest is doing its annual Window Walk. 30 businesses around downtown Boise have windows painted Treefort style.
  • ​Record Exchange is throwing a Treefort Warmup Party with a live in-store performance by Dirt Fishermen, free Boise Brewing beer, giveaways & more.
  • Idaho State Museum has free admission & guided tours at 5:30pm & 6:30pm.
  • The Basque Market has a pinxto special of banderillas, plus paella at 6pm.
  • Richard's has happy hour from 2-9pm.
  • Trillium Restaurant has happy hour all day.
  • Umpqua Bank has free beer & pizza and giveaways.
  • House of Wine is doing free pours of Cinder Wine.
  • The Modern has a tarot card reader & happy hour from 4:30-6:30pm.
  • Meriwether Cider has St Paddies crafts, temp tattoo bar & snake bites (which is cider & Guinness).

Garden prep

  • ​Boise Parks & Recreation has a bunch of gardening classes & events. Beekeeping, organic gardening, tree pruning, planting and more. Register asap because these fill up!
  • Sat Mar 9: Orchid Repotting Workshop at Edwards Greenhouse. You can buy an orchid from Edwards or bring in your own to repot. This is a drop in class, no registration required!
  • Sat Mar 9: Garden Happy Hour with BUGS.
  • Sat Mar 16: Blueberries 101 at Farwest Garden Center. Call 208-853-4000 to RSVP.
  • Sat Mar 16: Fruit Trees 101 at Franz Witte. It's 10 and starts at 11am.
  • Tue Mar 19: Thoughtful Landscaping for Wildlife with Wild Birds Unlimited class at Idaho Botanical Garden. Tix are $25.
  • Sat Mar 23: Composting with Worms at North End Organic Nursery. It's free! Register by calling 208-389-4769.
  • Sat Mar 30: Spring Flower Porch Pot at Farwest Garden Center. Call 208-853-4000 to RSVP. This class is $35 & includes all materials.
  • Sat Mar 30: How to Grow Microgreens at Franz Witte. It's $40 with a kit or $10 without a kit. Starts at 2pm.
  • Sat Apr 6: Roses 101 at Farwest Garden Center. Call 208-853-4000 to RSVP.
  • Sat Apr 6: Bonsai 101 at Franz Witte. It's $65 and there's two classes at 10am & 1pm.
  • Sat Apr 13: Seed Starting with Snake River Seed Co-op at Franz Witte. It's $25 and starts at 2pm.

Out of town tip

Have you ever been to Silver Creek Plunge Resort in Garden Valley? This is a fantastic place to consider for your spring and summer family trips.

​Silver Creek Plunge Resort is located in Garden Valley, about 2 hours from Boise. The property is 13 acres surrounded by the Boise National Forest. On the property there’s a large geothermal swimming pool, fishing, hiking, star gazing, a volleyball court, and tons of hiking and outdoor opportunities. This is a family-friendly campground with cabins, RV camping and tent camping.

In the winter months, the resort is only accessible by snowmobile. Once the snow melts off you can drive right in.

Comedy & storytelling

  • Fri Mar 8: The Riff is happening at Mad Swede Brew Hall at 7pm. It's a stand up comedy that's improvised - you give the topics & they make the jokes. Tix are $20 online/$25 at the door.
  • Fri Mar 8: Riddikulus Comedy Show, an improv show all about Ravenclaw & Harry Potter, is happening at Lounge at the End of the Universe. Tix are $20, starts at 7pm.
  • Fri Mar 8: The Writing Games Standup Comedy/Music is happening at Watson's Cafe. Tix are $15-$45 and it starts at 8pm.
  • Sat Mar 9: Almost Lucky Improv Comedy Show is happening at The Creative Space at 8pm. The show is a celebration of the absurdity of life's near-miss moments. Tix are $15.
  • Sat Mar 9: Femme Fatale Comedy Show is happening at 9pm at Mad Swede Brew Hall. It's an opening feminist comedy show. Tix are $20.
  • Sat Mar 9: The Late Night Open Mic is happening at Mad Swede Brew Hall. Signups at 10:30pm, show starts at 11pm. It's free!

Food finds & things to drink

  • TONIGHT: Boise Co-op is hosting a Backpacking Culinary Adventure class where you can learn meals to take on the trail! Tix are $45-$55 and it starts at 5:30pm.
  • Sat Mar 9: Boise Farmers Market is doing a pop up market at 11am. This is the last one before the market opens on April 6! The pop up is where the market usually is, 1500 Shoreline Dr in Boise.
  • Sun Mar 10: Join Second Sunday Slay Brunch at The Balcony. This month's drag brunch event is a bday celebration for Coco Freeo. Enjoy bottomless mimosas, waffle buffet & a stellar show. Tix are $15-$360.
  • Tue Mar 12: St Patty's Cupcake Decorating Class with MAd Cake Skills at Barbarian Brewing (Garden City location). Perfect for beginners! Tix are $50 and includes all materials. All ages welcome.
  • Wed Mar 13: Meriwether Cider is hosting a Girl Scout Cookie and Cider Pairing from 5-7pm. Enjoy 4 ciders paired with 4 cookies. There's also a NA option!
