Boise's first dog park bar

What if there was a dog park that was as fun for humans and it is for dogs? That question now has an answer: Clubhound.

Clubhound is a new dog park bar located at 415 E Remington Street in Boise. It just opened last Saturday, July 13, but it's been years in the making.

Founder Jake Whitlock came up with the idea six years ago and ran it by his mom, Julie Emerick, who came on board to help as managing owner. Over the past few years, Julie and Jake have visited a dozen or so dog park bars concepts in other states, where they mostly learned what they didn’t want to do. Once they had a concept that was aligned with the Boise community, they found a space and got to work.

After 15 months of construction, Clubhound is now officially open. Trust me, you’re going to love it as much as your dog does.

The place is huge. Inside Clubhound there’s a bar, coffee shop, lots of tables and seating, and a big covered patio. Outside there’s games, food trucks, and a massive fenced area for dogs to run around off-leash. Plus there’s high speed wifi inside and outside, so you can get some work done while your pup burns off some energy.

How it works

At Clubhound, dogs come first. Dogs hold the membership and can bring any human they want. That includes parents, grandparents, dog sitters, dog walkers – the list goes on.

A membership to Clubhound is $15 a day, $44 a month, or $381 a year. Monthly and yearly members get unlimited visits, 10% off all beverages, unlimited access to the self-serve dog washing station, access to exclusive member events, and a discounted rate of $25/month or $125/year for each additional household dog. You can check out membership options here.

Dogs must be up to date on all vaccines to come play at Clubhound. After you sign up for a day pass or membership and upload your pup’s records, your dog will get an ID card to scan when they walk through the door.

Once inside, the entire place is open to dogs and humans. The indoor space and adjacent patio is on-leash and the fenced area is off-leash.

Room to zoom

Obviously, space for pups to play is the most important thing. Clubhound has a 60,000 square foot fenced area dedicated to off-leash play. Within that space there’s play equipment, a water station, shaded areas, and seating for humans. One of the best parts about this space is the “rufferrees” or staff members who are out in the yard keeping an eye on pups and leading activities for the dogs. Thanks to rufferrees, dog owners don’t have to stand around and wait for their dog to be done getting out the zoomies like you usually do at a dog park. You can leave the area to get some work done, have a drink, or eat some food while your dog plays.

A park open after dark

Most of the dog parks around here close at dusk. Clubhound is open until 10pm every day of the week. To make this possible, they installed solar lights throughout the property so pups can keep playing once the sun goes down.

Human perks

The whole goal of Clubhound is to create a dog park that was equally fun for dogs and their humans. Clubhound’s indoor space features a bar serving beer, wine, and canned cocktails, and an Alchemist Coffee Shop. There’s tons of tables inside and a 2,200 square-foot shaded patio area with seating, corn-hole, and food trucks.

I mentioned this earlier but I’ll say it again, there’s high speed wi-fi throughout the entire property. No more hot spotting your phone to work at a dirty picnic table at the dog park. At Clubhound, you can work inside at a table with a coffee or out in the off-leash space with a beer.

Events

Clubhound threw a banger grand opening party last weekend complete with stand up comedy, live music, food trucks, a dog art station, wine tasting, and a night market. They plan to continue doing events for humans (and dogs), including regular comedy nights, live music, a dog-centric market, trivia nights, adoption events, breed meetups, yoga and workout classes, and more. They will also have a regular lineup of members-only events.

You can also host a private event at Clubhound. The “dog houses” or private event spaces are a separate fenced area within the on-leash area where people can hold birthday parties, gatherings, weddings, and more.

Clubhound is open from 8am to 10pm every day of the week. You can find more info at clubhound.com and follow them at @joinclubhound on Instagram.
