Now through early fall, flower farms across the Treasure Valley are open and blooming. You can snip your own stems, make a custom bouquet, and spend a slow morning or golden hour surrounded by rows of zinnias, dahlias, sunflowers, cosmos, and more.
There are more U-pick flower farms than ever before and some fun new additions (soft serve! date nights! kittens!). Most farms are open through September or October.
Some spots are super small and by appointment only while others have regular hours and events. It's a super fun things to do with friends, kids, visitors, or as a date night.
Here’s everything you need to know to go flower picking in the Treasure Valley.
Quick refresher before you go:
Bees: They live there. They’re working. They will more than likely not sting you if you leave them alone. Bring your epi pen if that’s a thing for you.
Kids: Super kid-friendly. Just coach them not to trample beds or decapitate every flower in sight.
Hydrate & shade: Most fields are full sun. Hat + water bottle will help you not melt.
Bring a container: Some farms discount if you BYO jar/bucket or return theirs.
Timing: Morning or evening “golden hour” = prettier photos + perkier flowers than the 3pm scorch.

Also I wasn’t sure where else to put this but there is a really cool farm called Flaming Acres Flower Farm that is closed for the 2025 season because they are transforming the farm into a "Dahlia Wonderland." They will open again for Labor Day 2026. Stay tuned!
There's also some quite a few flower farms that don't offer u-pick but do offer self-serve flower stands, bouquet pick-up, and/or subscriptions. You can see those here (this website is slightly out of date but mostly all good).
How to get the best blooms
Cut earlier or later: Morning or golden hour reduces stem stress. Midday = floppy.
Pick mature enough: For sunflowers, look for petals mostly opened; for zinnias, do the “wiggle test” (shake & if stem stays straight, it’s ready).
Don't overstuff: You can damage stems if you try to jam too many flowers in your container.
Strip lower foliage: Leaves below the water line rot first. And they start to stink lol.
Hydrate fast: Get them into water within 10–15 minutes if possible. All of these farms have water available for flowers.
Condition at home: Recut stems at an angle, refill with cool clean water, keep out of direct sun for the first few hours.
